Sunday not to be observed in Jewish fashion. Canon 30. Jews not to mix with Christians between Holy Thursday and Easter. Jews to stay out of site during Passover & Easter www.Jewishencyclopedia.com Title "ORLEANS" 533 the second Council of Orleans forbade marriages between Jews and Christians, under pain of excommunication of the latter It forbade Christians to permit Jews to act as judges, and prohibited the Jews from appearing in public between Maundy Thursday and Easter Monday, also interdicting the clergy from eating with them. 541, that any Jew who should make a convert, or should induce one of his former coreligionists to return to Judaism, or who should appropriate a Christian slave, or should induce a Christian to embrace Judaism, should be punished by the loss of all his slaves; if, on the other hand, a Christian became a Jew, and gained his liberty on condition of adhering to the Jewish faith, that such terms should be invalid; for it would not be just for a Christian convert to Judaism to enjoy freedom. 538 THIRD COUNCIL OF ORLEANS (Gaul) Prohibited Jews from appearing in the streets during Easter because "their appearance is an insult to Christianity". Childbert (a Merovinian king) approved the measure so as not to offend Christians. Until the reign of Charlemagne (800), France (Gaul) consisted of small principalities ruled by petty kings. The decree of a king was not valid beyond the borders of his kingdom, so if Jews were banished from one kingdom it did not affect the Jews in another kingdom. 538: The 3rd and 4th (541)Councils of Orleans prohibited Jews from appearing in public during the Easter season. Canon 30 decreed that "From the Thursday before Easter for four days, Jews may not appear in the company of Christians." 5 Marriages between Christians and Jews were prohibited. Christians were prohibited from converting to Judaism. 4 541..4th SYNOD OF ORLEANS Canon 30. Christian slaves of Jews to be redeemed on request. Canon 31.
